Dualité au sommet de l'État : Les Sociaux-Démocrates du Sénégal interpellent le tandem Diomaye-Sonko
The Social Democrats of Senegal (SDS) party has taken a stand to denounce the situation in which the municipality of Ziguinchor is plunged, particularly the economic management linked to the alleged financial scandal of some thirty million CFA francs.
Its leader, Dr. Mohamed Lamine Manga, also urged the executive duo, Diomaye and Sonko, to maintain the unified momentum that brought them to power. This was to say that the ongoing divisions risk plunging the country into a disastrous economic situation.
Earlier, the Social Democrats paid tribute to the memory of soldiers who fell on the front lines in North Sindian in recent days, urging lasting peace in the area.
"We wish to pay solemn tribute to the soldiers who fell in Sindian as well as to the nine wounded. Casamance has been in crisis since 1982. We make a personal appeal to the actors to move towards frank negotiations so that this wounded region of ours can regain its rightful place in Senegal," prayed the national secretary general of the SDS.
Alleged financial scandal at Ziguinchor town hall: the mayor's moral responsibility is called into question
The SDS also took the opportunity to point the finger at the mayor's responsibility in the alleged financial scandal at the municipality of Ziguinchor, in particular the mayor's moral responsibility.
"The embezzlement of 33 million, proven by the gendarmerie and attested to by the current mayor, even if his criminal innocence seems increasingly clear, we believe he bears a moral responsibility for these embezzlements, because he is the leader of the current municipal team," according to the national secretary general of this party, who believes the mayor has demonstrated negligence and laxity in handling this matter. "When someone embezzles 33 million and then gives us the narrative that he's a family man and that he was given a grace period, this is a level of negligence that cannot be tolerated in a democratic country where leaders promote the slogan 'Jub-Jubeul-Jubanti' (Happiness-Happiness-Happiness)."
Dr. Manga added: "Our region is poor enough that the best resources available to the town hall are being misappropriated. The team in place needs to show much more rigor."
Duality at the top of the state: the SDS raise the alarm
The duality at the top of the state between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko must not prosper, warns Dr. Mohamed Lamine Manga.
"We have launched an appeal for unity of action, synergy, and solidarity, because this is the project that was sold to the Senegalese people. And today, if the Senegalese executive branch is to be affected by this crisis, it could affect the stability of the country and the economic progress that has been made. And it would plunge us into the chaotic situations experienced in 1962 by Senghor and Mamadou Dia."
From his point of view, the Senegalese people have an interest in this tandem being able to evolve together: "The stability of the country is at stake. The success of our public policies is also at stake."
With this disastrous economic situation (132% external debt of GDP) it is urgent that the president and his prime minister agree to pull the government up for more coherence in government action, remains convinced the national secretary general of the SDS.
