Meeting in Dakar on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the Council of Ministers placed the current year under the sign of the execution of public policies and the strengthening of national cohesion, under the chairmanship of Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of the Republic.

During this meeting, the Head of State revisited the significance of his address to the Nation on December 31, 2025, which, according to the press release, "allowed for an assessment of the State's achievements and for putting into perspective the major programs, projects and investments."

Thus, the President of the Republic reminded members of the government of their obligation to achieve concrete results in implementing the established guidelines. The official text specifies that he "reminded the government of the requirement for results in the execution of the approved sectoral policy letters" and that he asked the Prime Minister "to provide a monthly update on the progress of the legislative and regulatory agenda and the 2026 Government Action Plan."

Improving the living conditions of the population was at the heart of the discussions. The Head of State stressed "improving household purchasing power, sustained recovery of the national economy, revitalizing the infrastructure, construction, building and public works sectors", while emphasizing the role of export-oriented sectors, "such as horticulture, tourism, fishing and arts and crafts".

The social dimension of public action was also highlighted. The press release states that "the year 2026 must be dedicated to revitalizing national solidarity and expanding social interventions and programs," with "a special emphasis on efforts in the areas of employment and the social and solidarity economy, through the strengthening of cooperatives."

From a territorial perspective, the President of the Republic gave specific instructions to the Prime Minister. He asked him to "expedite the implementation of territorial hubs before the end of the first half of 2026," while working "to strengthen the decentralization and deconcentration of public action."
