After the opening ceremony of the 10th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye published a message on his Facebook page.
“This morning, in the presence of my brothers Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and current Chairman of ECOWAS, and Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, I opened the 10th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa. Ten years already, this event has carried a demand that remains unchanged: that Africa think about its own security and no longer delegate its definition to others,” he declared.
The head of state thus affirmed that "the world of 2026 is undoing its balances and reminds us, through conflicts that wound consciences, of the persistence of barbarity. Our continent is neither protected nor resigned."
According to him, it is now up to the nation to govern its resources rather than merely be their source, to finance its own forces rather than waiting for guarantees, to invest in its youth before others seize them. Sovereignty, in this age of the world, is no longer a demand; it is a discipline.
Before concluding, he said: “I hope that this edition will be one of maturity and action. A united Africa has the means to exert influence. It is up to Africa, here in Dakar, to accept that responsibility.”
