Révélations de Mimi Touré : "Macky Sall voulait faire de Mansour Faye..."
The behind-the-scenes details of the election of the President of the National Assembly following the 2022 legislative elections continue to be revealed. In an interview with Jeune Afrique, former Prime Minister and former Special Envoy Aminata Touré stated that the final choice of Amadou Mame Diop was merely an alternative.
According to Aminata Touré, President Macky Sall had a very clear preference for the presidency of the institution: "The person Macky Sall wanted to appoint as president of the National Assembly was Mansour Faye, his own brother-in-law."
At the time, Mansour Faye held the position of Minister of Infrastructure, Land Transport and Rural Development. However, this plan was reportedly thwarted because Mansour Faye "had just been defeated in his constituency, in Saint-Louis".
Aminata Touré looks back on the events that preceded her exclusion from the National Assembly (AN). She reveals that she was the only one to refuse to sign a proxy on behalf of MP Farba Ngom during the party retreat, intended to ensure that MPs would vote in the way indicated by the Head of State.
On the morning of September 12, the date of the vote, Macky Sall informed her by telephone of the choice of Amadou Mame Diop, a decision that took some members of the coalition by surprise.
This was the last time she and President Sall spoke to each other.
After boycotting the vote, Aminata Touré sat among the non-affiliated members. She revealed that on the evening of the vote, she received an offer from President Sall, via an emissary: to replace Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye as president of the High Council of Territorial Authorities (HCCT), which she refused.
On January 26, 2023, the National Assembly bureau removed her from the parliamentary register, effectively deeming her to have resigned from the APR party. On Twitter, she denounced this as a "violation of the law" and reaffirmed her determination to continue her fight for democracy and against the attempted third term.
