« Ils ne réussiront pas à tromper les Sénégalais conscients » : Cheikh Oumar Diagne dévoile la tentative « ratée » de Diomaye et Sonko
Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko disagreed, and vice versa: this episode occurred publicly several times during the first two years of the current regime. This created, in the eyes of some observers, a divide between the achievements of the Prime Minister on the one hand, and those of the President on the other.
But this scheme doesn't convince Cheikh Oumar Diagne. A special guest on Seneweb, the leader of the Rassemblement pour la vérité / And Ci Deug party believes it's a strategy to discredit the current government's record. A strategy that won't work with "conscious Senegalese citizens," he argues.
“They are the same. They are identical. Sonko is Diomaye and Diomaye is Sonko. They will not succeed in getting that out of the minds of conscious Senegalese people. People who think know that they share the record of this regime. They cannot put in place subterfuges or political strategies to deceive the Senegalese and make them believe that he is the good one and the other one is the bad one. It is false and it will not work,” he said.
However, while they share the same record and orientations, Cheikh Oumar Diagne believes that the two strongmen of the country have completely different personalities. "When you look closely, or even just spend time with them, you quickly realize that they are different in many respects. They don't have the same temperament, the same nature, the same logic, and certainly not the same mindset. What they share is a struggle and an ideal that they find within Pastef. But apart from that, they are completely different," argues the political leader.
In his analysis, Cheikh Oumar Diagne criticizes the ruling duo for an ideological shift compared to the promises initially made to the Senegalese people, particularly the promise of a break with the system. "Today, people who were with Wade, then with Macky, are following in their footsteps, while others who had abandoned the Prime Minister during the events between 2021 and 2024 have changed their minds and been welcomed back. Neither of them (Diomaye and Sonko) are consistent or coherent," he criticizes.
