Le Comité de Libération du Sénégal dénonce un ‘’coup d’État parlementaire’’ et appelle à la mobilisation
In a statement made public on Friday, June 5, 2026, Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Sall, speaking on behalf of the Committee for the Liberation of Senegal (CLS) / Fipou Brigade, strongly contested the events that took place at the National Assembly on May 26, 2026.
The political leader also denounced what he called a "parliamentary coup d'état perpetrated at the National Assembly on Tuesday, May 26, 2026".
In the statement, the CLS accuses Ousmane Sonko of being behind this institutional situation, by contesting the legitimacy of the presidency of the National Assembly despite no longer being a member of parliament. "This is a dangerous precedent that paves the way for an era of coups d'état in Senegal. We knew that Ousmane Sonko had become a psychopath capable of the worst, and he has demonstrated it to us," the document reads, an act of "treachery that will not be tolerated."
The movement's spokesperson also called on the President of the Republic, "guardian and guarantor" of the Constitution and "keystone of the institutions," who swore to protect the Constitution, the institutions and "territorial integrity," to dissolve "immediately the National Assembly which has become illegal and illegitimate."
Call to action
The CLS is launching an "appeal to all democrats here and elsewhere to stand together as one to begin the fight for the liberation of our country."
According to Sheikh Ahmed Tidiane Sall, this fight is about "restoring republican values, ethics and morality".
