Manifestations devant l'Assemblée nationale : «J'ai été arrêtée et blessée» (ancienne députée Maïmouna Sène)
“I was arrested and suffered knee injuries during the clashes that occurred near the National Assembly on June 29, 2026, during the session devoted to examining the draft revision of the Constitution.” The statement comes from former MP Maïmouna Sène, a member of the National Executive Secretariat of the Alliance for the Republic (APR).
She justifies her presence on the scene, which was in response to a desire to denounce what she considers to be a "forceful" and "approach likely to weaken Senegalese democracy".
Like several opposition leaders and activists, she claims to have participated in this mobilization to challenge the proceedings initiated.
The former parliamentarian believes that today, it would be preferable to validate President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye's decision so that the issue can be resolved through a referendum. She thinks that appealing to the people is a democratic way to ease tensions.
Maïmouna Sène, who also calls on political actors to prioritize dialogue and focus their efforts on the major concerns of Senegalese people, particularly the urgency of getting the country out of the economic impasse, fighting against unemployment and improving the living conditions of the population, believes that these challenges must now be the priority of the authorities as well as the entire political class.
