Médaille de la ville : Thiès décore Idrissa Seck et d'éminentes personnalités
On the eve of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Senegal's independence, Thiès chose to honor some of its most illustrious sons, namely the former Prime Minister and ex-mayor of Thiès, Idrissa Seck, and posthumously some icons.
The initiative comes from the Thiès town hall and municipal council, who are organizing a solemn ceremony next Saturday to award the City Medal to ten personalities who have marked the history and development of the railway city.
The distinction, the highest at the municipal level, aims to celebrate exceptional achievements in fields as varied as religion, economics, sport, higher education and politics.
"This ceremony will pay tribute to distinguished individuals and celebrate their exceptional contribution to the development of our city," the municipality recalls.
The list of recipients reflects the diversity and richness of Thiès' human capital. In addition to Idrissa Seck, the city will also pay a vibrant tribute to builders who have passed away, such as the oil magnate Abdoulaye Diao, known as "Baba Diao" (ITOC), and the religious leader Serigne Saliou Touré.
Also among the ten decorated personalities were Serigne Mounirou Ndieguene Al Khalifa, Monsignor André Guèye, Mayoro Fall, Djiby Diagne "My Parent", Professor Ramatoulaye Mbengue Diagne (Rector of USSEIN), the late Boubacar Diop known as "Bouba Diakhao" and Souleymane Kanté.
As a reminder, the city of Thiès was chosen by the national authorities to host, on April 4, the official parade of the 65th anniversary of Senegal's accession to international sovereignty.
