A Senegalese soldier has been missing for several months following a search operation in the south of the country. The information, confirmed by a press release from the Ministry of the Armed Forces dated April 17, 2025, has rekindled the debate on the security situation in Casamance.

According to the official document signed by Captain Ibrahima Sow, a military detachment was attacked by an armed group in the Mongone sector, Bignona department, on April 16. The toll reported was one soldier injured and another missing. "For the time being, all necessary means are being implemented to find the missing soldier," the statement said, adding that operations are continuing to secure the area and protect the population.

This disappearance comes in a context of persistent tension in certain areas of Casamance, where clashes between armed forces and rebel elements are regularly reported.

On the social network X, former minister and communications expert Dr. Yoro Dia responded by questioning the Prime Minister about the follow-up to this case and other similar cases. "Six months that a valiant Jambar has been in the hands of the rebels. Forgetfulness is worse than solitude. Twenty months that we have been waiting for our Prime Minister to keep his promise to shed light on the disappearance of gendarmes Badji and Sambou," he wrote, believing that "the honor of Senegal and the credibility of the Prime Minister" are at stake.
