“I will be a man of action, because livestock farming is a field-based activity. We will go deep into the heart of Senegal, to the grasslands of the prairies, to meet with the herders, because we fully understand that livestock farming takes place on the grassland. We will go into the field to meet the needs of the herders.” This statement was made by Mr. Ousmane Diagne, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, responsible for Livestock (MASAE). He made this statement during his handover ceremony yesterday at the Diamniadio Agricultural Lands.

The mayor of Thiès-Est continued: “I wanted to take the floor to express my deepest gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, who appointed me Minister of Livestock. I express my sincere appreciation and fully understand the magnitude of the mission and task entrusted to me to serve our Senegal and the entire pastoral ecosystem.”

"Under the leadership of the Minister in charge of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Dr. Cheikh Oumar Ba, we do not intend to do less than our predecessors, Dr. Mabouba Diagne and Dr. Alpha Ba," promises Mr. Ousmane Diagne.

The newly appointed head of the Livestock Department, addressing livestock farmers, emphasized: “We understand and are aware that livestock farming takes place on the ground. The Ministry of Livestock is a field-based organization; we will be there to serve you. That is why we intend to come to you, wherever livestock farmers may be. We are committed to an inclusive approach, because together we will succeed for the benefit of pastoralism.”

He also recalled the priority areas of his ministry: "The success of the agro-sylvo-pastoral orientation law (LOASP), the fight against the scourge of livestock theft and the promotion of the Sheep Self-Sufficiency Program (PRONAM)".
