Mosquée omarienne : le problème des bourses des étudiants s’invite dans le sermon de la korité
The violent clashes between students and law enforcement over unpaid scholarships, which led to the death of medical student Abdoulaye Bâ, were a topic of discussion during the Korité sermon delivered by the imam of the Oran mosque. "We have all been students and we understand the true value of a scholarship for a student. If the scholarship isn't paid, they have problems," acknowledged Thierno Seydou Mountaga Tall, brother of the Caliph, Thierno Madani, in remarks reported by L'Observateur.
But while he expresses compassion for the situation of scholarship recipients at public universities, the religious leader advises them to opt for peaceful negotiations in the event of friction with the authorities. "Problems related to scholarship payments can be resolved without confrontation between law enforcement and students. Dialogue must be prioritized: whenever there is a dispute, I advise students to agree to sit down at the table with the State," insists Thierno Seydou Mountaga Tall.
