Moussa Bala Fofana quitte PASTEF
Moussa Bala Fofana, reappointed as Minister of Urban Planning, Local Authorities, and Territorial Development, has officially resigned from PASTEF–Les Patriotes. Responding frankly to Ousmane Sonko's calls for clarification—who had criticized certain ministers for not adhering to party directives—the minister acknowledges a conscientious choice. Prioritizing the completion of key projects within his ministry and his duty to the nation over partisan politics, he reaffirms his loyalty to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye while asserting his political independence.
Reappointed for the third time to the government, Moussa Bala Fofana expressed his profound gratitude to the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, for his renewed confidence. Clarifying that he had never worked with the Head of State before his political party came to power, he praised his unwavering support in carrying out his ministry's projects. The Minister took this opportunity to make a solemn statement to the citizens: "I swear by God that the President of the Republic has never spoken to me about any political project." He also reiterated his fraternal sentiments towards Ousmane Sonko, president of the PASTEF party, whom he described as an older brother and comrade in arms, affirming that nothing could erase their shared history and the bonds of knowledge forged between them.
However, the political break is complete. In response to Ousmane Sonko's statement claiming that some reappointed ministers had chosen not to comply with the party's directives, Moussa Bala Fofana replied unequivocally: "Yes, I acted freely and in my personal capacity."
Rejecting any suggestion of defiance or mere calculation to retain his position, the minister stated that he made this decision in good conscience, fully aware that he would face slander and lose his political family. Faced with a dilemma between partisan alignment and national duty, he chose the homeland in order to honor the promises made to the Senegalese people in 2024. Believing that personal conflicts pale in comparison to the greater good of the nation, he formalized his resignation from PASTEF–Les Patriotes, recalling that “a patriot may resign from a party, but never from the homeland.”
