Nouveau gouvernement : Aminata "Mimi" Touré prévient Ousmane Sonko
Invited to speak on RFI, the coordinator of the "Diomaye-President" coalition discussed the formation of the new government, as well as the notable absence of key figures from Pastef, as requested by Ousmane Sonko. On the French media outlet, Aminata Touré, better known as "Mimi," warned the current Speaker of the National Assembly about a possible obstruction of the new government's actions in the assembly.
"If everyone respects their prerogatives and puts forward the interests of Senegal, we shouldn't have any problems. I hope we won't be in a situation where an institution is used to satisfy personal interests," says "Mimi" Touré to Ousmane Sonko, who was reinstated as a member of parliament a few days ago and then elected president of the National Assembly in the process, replacing El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned to clear the way for him.
The former Prime Minister added: "We can't be stuck in these endless domestic disputes, it's impossible. If everyone puts the interests of the people first, who need anything but an institutional crisis, then everyone will play their part. The National Assembly will play its part, the executive branch will play its part, the judiciary will play its part, including the Constitutional Council, which will review the constitutionality of the laws. That's what the Senegalese people expect, and I think they will judge based on the facts."
At a press conference yesterday, Ousmane Sonko indirectly addressed these fears of a no-confidence vote. The Pastef leader sought to reassure his fellow citizens. "If I wanted to, I could bring down this government tomorrow. And I would block those that follow. But I won't. I'm not involved in these schemes. I'm working for the interests of the Senegalese people," he said.
