«On doit consentir des sacrifices» : la proposition choc de Sonko pour...
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko announced the creation of a committee to study a radical measure: banning internet access for minors under 16. Speaking at the close of the conference on Koranic schools (daaras), he justified this initiative by emphasizing the need to protect social values: "It is sometimes more dangerous to disseminate information about a prohibited act than the act itself. By constantly hearing about such acts, we end up normalizing them. That is why we must protect society," he explained, as reported by Les Échos.
According to him, this regulation is part of a broader struggle for national sovereignty. Ousmane Sonko denounced the international pressure exerted on Senegal following the tightening of penalties for homosexuality: "Many countries have it in for Senegal and are doing everything they can to suffocate our country economically. These groups of countries represent only 10% of the world's population, but they wield economic and military power, as well as control over major media outlets and social networks, to impose their views," he stated.
The head of government declared: "We must make sacrifices for our sovereignty, instead of hiding behind rhetoric. Sovereignty is priceless. It is what will allow us to build a society that is in line with our beliefs and our vision."
