Ousmane Sonko aux jeunes : « Vous n’êtes pas les témoins d’un déclin, mais les bâtisseurs d'un Sénégal en mouvement ! »
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko presided over the closing ceremony of Youth Week. Organized around the theme "To the Rhythm of Olympism," this edition provided the head of government with an opportunity to encourage young people to demonstrate commitment, discipline, and civic responsibility.
According to him, this theme goes far beyond mere symbolism. "Olympism, in its deepest truth, is not a celebration of victory, but a civilization of effort," he declared. He described it as a daily choice: that of discipline rather than ease, of respect for the opponent rather than contempt, and of collective success rather than individual glory.
In his address to the youth, the head of government emphasized the exceptional nature of the year 2026, marked both by the 66th anniversary of Senegal's independence and by the hosting of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Two major events which, according to him, reflect both the country's history and its future ambitions.
"One reminds us of where we come from, the other announces what we are becoming. And in both cases, it is you, the youth, who are the meaning," he affirmed, inviting young people to proudly represent Senegal and Africa on the international stage.
Seeking to mobilize the nation, Ousmane Sonko rejected any pessimistic view of Senegalese youth. "You are not witnesses to a Senegal in decline, but builders of a Senegal on the move," he insisted, calling for a strengthening of patriotism based on lucidity, cohesion, and a clear identification of national priorities.
The Prime Minister also addressed the profound changes in the world today, urging young people to develop critical thinking and analytical skills in the face of global crises. He emphasized that "an awakened and aware youth constitutes the surest foundation for endogenous and sustainable development."
Finally, he emphasized the need for continuous awareness-raising work, based on truth and collective commitment, believing that "nothing can resist the will of a people determined to change their common destiny."
