The session dedicated to the reinstatement of Ousmane Sonko and the election of the new president of the National Assembly finally took place without the non-affiliated deputies and those of the Takku Wallu parliamentary group.

Indeed, Aïssata Tall Sall and her opposition colleagues have decided to boycott Tuesday's parliamentary proceedings outright. According to them, the procedure surrounding the return of the former Prime Minister and the election of the new Speaker amounts to a "parliamentary hold-up," which they deem to be in violation of the National Assembly's rules of procedure.

The Takku Wallu group is particularly critical of the speed of the procedure and strongly contests the conditions under which this extraordinary session is being organized. The dissenting parliamentarians have also announced the publication of an official statement in the coming hours to explain in more detail the legal and political reasons for their withdrawal.

While awaiting this unveiling, the vote continues in a chamber largely dominated by members of the Pastef-Les Patriotes party. Only the 130 members of parliament from the presidential majority are currently participating in the vote. Following the roll call by the newly elected First Secretary, the members file forward one by one to deposit their ballots in the ballot box, under the watchful eyes of the members of the session's bureau.

This election, which takes place in a particularly tense political context, confirms once again the deep divisions between the parliamentary majority led by Pastef and an opposition that is outraged by what it considers a total and unilateral takeover of the parliamentary institution by the power in place.

132 ont voté pour sonko alors que les députés de pastef font 130. Donc y'a 2 députés de l'opposition qui ont voté pour sonko.

J’ai pitié de vous, vous dites que seuls les 130 députés Pastef ont voté pour or il y a eu 132 suffrages favorables. Avoir le plein de voix de son Parti, dans un scrutin secret, quelle performance ! On sait qui est dépositaire de la légitimité et à la place de l’autre je me serais ressaisi pour retrouver ma famille politique et mes vrais amis. Les crocodiles l’ont précipité dans leur mare, mus uniquement par leur vils intérêts matériels.
