Ponction des salaires des enseignants : Guy Marius Sagna accuse l’État de dérives administratives
Senegalese MP Guy Marius Sagna has taken to the airwaves to denounce what he calls an injustice suffered by several teachers, who, according to him, are victims of "unjustified" salary deductions following the strike movements observed in January 2026.
In a public statement, the elected official announced that he had submitted a written question to the government on April 1, 2026, seeking clarification on these deductions, which he deemed concerning. While acknowledging the state's legal right to make deductions in the event of a strike, he nevertheless emphasized the need to respect the principles of legality, proportionality, and transparency.
Guy Marius Sagna thus raises several points of contention. He questions, in particular, cases where teachers who participated in a six-day strike allegedly had their salaries deducted in lieu of ten days' pay. He also mentions situations deemed irregular, involving seconded staff or those on sick leave who were reportedly subject to these deductions.
Beyond these specific cases, the parliamentarian denounces "administrative dysfunctions" and a lack of individualized verification in the processing of files. He also criticizes the practice of accumulating deductions over several months before making a single, large-scale withdrawal, a method he believes is likely to exacerbate social tensions and weaken workers.
In a broader discussion, Guy Marius Sagna criticizes the functioning of the state apparatus, calling for profound structural reforms. He cites, in particular, the tragic case of student Abdoulaye Ba as an example, linking it to an insufficient transformation of inherited institutions.
The MP also questioned the Minister of Public Service about the existence of a possible audit of the deductions made in January 2026, as well as the corrective measures taken in the event of errors. He called for the establishment of a clear, transparent, and coordinated mechanism to regulate these practices.
