Problèmes économiques du Sénégal : Sonko désigne l’origine du mal
Our public policies had completely misjudged their priorities. And this had been the case since independence. That's the opinion of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. According to him, the authorities were "far more focused on spending for political prestige than on spending aimed at developing the key sectors of the economy."
The head of government believes that an economy must be built and constructed. And this should begin, he says, with a thorough understanding of the country's potential and a very clear vision, linked to financing and economic development plans to build robust sectors. But in his view, Senegal has never worked to establish and implement this vision.
"And that is why the observation is there. A very heavily service-based economy, whose structure is much more like that of post-industrial economies, while we have almost no industry," he said on Thursday, during the launch of activities to mobilize the private sector in agropoles and industrial sites.
According to the Prime Minister, a lot of money has been mobilized and spent, with direct, indirect, bilateral, and multilateral investments all contributing. But the result has been a failure: "A huge amount of money has been invested in Senegal and Africa in general. And the end result is that it hasn't generated growth that has benefited Africans and Senegalese people, precisely because we got our priorities wrong," he said.
For Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, this is what needs to be corrected today.
