Réforme de l'UCAD : Ousmane Sonko annonce l'installation d'un commissariat et une délocalisation partielle
In the aftermath of the clashes that rocked Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko unveiled a robust action plan. Between strengthening the police presence and structural reorganization, the head of government intends to put an end to the chronic instability on campus.
The face of Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) could change radically in the coming months. Faced with growing insecurity, Ousmane Sonko announced that he had instructed the Minister of the Interior to conduct a study on establishing a police station in the heart of the university campus. For the Prime Minister, this measure is justified by the very nature of the campus, which he considers "a neighborhood like any other."
The objective is clear: to establish a system
permanent security measures to prevent overflows and protect infrastructure.
Beyond security concerns, the government is focusing on the issue of overcrowding. Ousmane Sonko stirred up controversy by suggesting a possible restructuring of the campus: "We are considering relocating the university, or part of it. 2,500 students can no longer be crammed into this space." This ambition reflects a desire to break with the current model and offer a more humane environment conducive to academic excellence.
Towards a new performance model
This transformation is accompanied by strategic thinking conducted jointly by the Ministries of Economy and Higher Education. The government is working on "models that will ensure the university's success," with a firm promise to the student community: "Those who seek to learn for years will be guaranteed by the State the best possible conditions."
Aware of the magnitude of the task and the potential resistance, the Prime Minister concluded his remarks with a call for resilience, emphasizing that "governance is not always smooth sailing." By linking security to profound structural reform, the government is attempting to provide a lasting solution to the crisis in the Senegalese university system.
