Robert Bourgi évoque à nouveau les 3 millions versés par Gbagbo à Chirac et dézingue Dominique de Villepin
Robert Bourgi rarely goes unnoticed when he is invited onto a television set. The outspoken Franco-Lebanese lawyer and political advisor has become a master at making sensational statements and "spicy" revelations.
During one of his appearances on Europe 1 at the end of last week, the Gaullist again spoke about the "3 million dollars" paid by the former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo to Jacques Chirac.
"Gbagbo recently intervened to say: 'Robert Bourgi is telling the truth'"
"I was present when this pact was concluded between De Villepin and Laurent Gbagbo, and it took place at the Lapérouse restaurant… Gbagbo intervened recently to say: 'Robert Bourgi is telling the truth. I paid three million dollars' to support the political action of Jacques Chirac," declared the Franco-Lebanese man, considered by many to be the henchman of Françafrique, on Europe 1.
Gifts of this kind were regular, Mr. Bourgi continued. From 1997 to 2005, Dominique de Villepin received 50 million euros, the lawyer asserted. The most documented delivery was that of Laurent Gbagbo.
It must be said that Robert Bourgi's media appearance aims to show all of France "the true face" of Dominique de Villepin: a man of Françafrique, complicit in the clandestine practices between the former colonial power and Francophone African capitals, and who had a pronounced taste for money and gifts.
"For the past two years, we have witnessed a complete erosion of what it represented for me and in the collective imagination."
Indeed, according to Mr. Bourgi, the former Secretary General of the Elysée received 125,000 euros worth of gifts, notably from a former African head of state.
The Franco-Lebanese businessman also accused Dominique de Villepin of being an "imposter".
“I said in my memoirs that I admired him, that I was fond of him. For the past two years, we have witnessed a complete distortion of what he represented for me and in the collective imagination: the Gaullist, the Gaullist. I no longer recognize this man, a carbon copy of Mélenchon, a carbon copy of Rima Hassan, a carbon copy of all sorts of other extremists. Dominique de Villepin is an imposter.” People call him a brilliant imposter. He's a crazy imposter," the Dakar native charged.
He says he is deeply exasperated by the "lessons" that the former foreign minister dares to give "to French politicians of the right and center".
Note that Robert Bourgi's ultimate goal is to counter Dominique de Villepin's presidential ambitions.
"I will do everything to prevent him from going to the Élysée Palace," he stated without flinching.
