Seydi Gassama appelle le régime à plus de tolérance envers l’opposition
Following the arrest of Pape Malick Ndour, coordinator of the Convergence of Republican Executives, the executive director of Amnesty International Senegal, Seydi Gassama, called on the authorities to break with the repressive practices inherited from the past.
According to him, the remarks made by Pape Malick Ndour during this gathering are not unprecedented.
"The remarks made by Pape Malick Ndour during this rally have often been made by opponents of President Abdou Diouf and opponents of President Abdoulaye Wade without them being prosecuted or sent to prison, when actions do not follow words," said Seydi Gassama.
Mr. Gassama recalls that it was under the Macky Sall regime that these offenses were used to "criminalize the political opposition and eliminate its most serious adversaries."
"It was Macky Sall who used these offenses to criminalize the political opposition and eliminate its most serious opponents. The current regime must break with these anti-democratic methods and be more tolerant of its opposition. It has everything to gain by adopting this attitude," he said.
