Tensions et violences électorales à Sedhiou : L'association Le Gabon en mode anticipation
With the upcoming elections in mind, the association called "Le Gabou" deemed it important to engage in awareness-raising activities beforehand to enable young people and women to play an active and responsible role in the electoral process, while expressing their leadership, said Ibrahima Diallo, director of the structure.
It is within this context that the program focused on democratic gains and human rights has been launched. It aims to address the challenges of information isolation, which limits access to reliable civic information. This situation exposes populations to the risk of political manipulation.
There are also gender disparities, especially in rural areas, where women have limited participation in decision-making bodies. Added to this is the disengagement of young people, which also presents a challenge, linked to a lack of frameworks for dialogue and leadership training.
The program includes radio broadcasts to popularize human rights and the electoral code in local languages and French, participatory talks, training workshops and an advocacy component aimed at influencing decision-makers for concrete commitments in favor of equality and parity.
This community mobilization is welcomed by Lamine Sadio of the NGO Enfance et Paix, who explains that such prevention activities should be promoted to anticipate electoral tensions and violence in Sédhiou.
This operational action plan is supported by the partner AJWS, represented at this activity by Ndeye Marieme Bodian.
