Thierno Bocoum et Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye s’écharpent sur les prérogatives de Sonko
Prime Minister Ousmane's virulent remarks towards Donald Trump continue to spark heated controversy, prompting an exchange between former MP Thierno Bocoum and government spokesperson Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye.
It all started when Thierno Bocoum, president of the AGIR movement, criticized the head of government for, in his view, overstepping his authority by interfering in the "reserved domain" of diplomacy, the exclusive domain of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The response was swift. In a direct comment under the opposition leader's post, the government spokesperson attempted to discredit his analysis: "In French, this is called missing the point to focus on the trivial, and in mathematics, if you do the math, it means a lack of arguments."
Far from ending the debate, this intervention prompted Thierno Bocoum to publish a new attack on Friday, April 10, 2026. For him, seeing the government spokesperson descend into the Facebook commentary arena to defend the Prime Minister is a sign of "disorder at the highest levels of government." He believes this situation reflects a deliberate attempt to disrupt the institutional balance.
The former parliamentarian also doesn't hold back in his criticism of the President of the Republic, pointing to his "silence and inaction" in the face of his Prime Minister's repeated overreach. "A President who is bypassed, who is disobeyed without consequence, inevitably weakens the office he embodies," he insists. Thierno Bocoum also rejects the call for resignation ("mougnelélénema") made to supporters of the Diomaye-President coalition, seeing it as preparation for a personal ambition for 2029 at the expense of the country's stability.
