Thiès : polémique autour de l’accueil du Président, la cellule de communication de Diomaye Faye rétablit les faits
In Thiès, the opening of the National Youth Week continues to provoke reactions, following the dissemination of information deemed inaccurate by the communication unit of the Diomaye President coalition.
In a statement, the organization provided details on the event held at Lat Dior Stadium, in the presence of the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. According to the statement, the President was warmly welcomed by a crowd of young people from various regions of Senegal.
The controversy centers in particular on a sequence that occurred at the beginning of his speech. According to the communications team, young people present spontaneously began singing a song of support: "Gnoune Diomaye lagnu beugg" ("we love Diomaye"). The President reportedly paused his speech briefly to acknowledge this gesture with a wave, before calmly resuming his address.
The coalition claims that numerous available video clips confirm this version of events, describing a moment of communion between the President and Senegalese youth.
She also deplores the fact that a media outlet relayed a version clearly contrary to reality, recalling a fundamental principle of journalism: "facts are sacred, comments are free."
In this context, the communications unit warns against the dissemination of inaccurate information for political purposes, which it considers harmful to the credibility of the press and the proper functioning of democracy.
Finally, she calls on media actors to be more responsible and invites citizens and regulatory bodies to be vigilant in order to guarantee fair, reliable and verified information.
