Yoro Dia : "Diomaye Faye tombe dans le piège des rentiers de la tension"
Dr. Yoro Dia, the former minister and communications coordinator for the presidency under Macky Sall, was quick to react to the new regime's attempts at institutional reform. In a statement on X, he argued that Macky Sall's successor is making a mistake by trying to establish an Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
According to Yoro Dia, this choice marks a setback for the Senegalese democratic model. "With his CENI, President Faye falls into the trap of those who profit from tension, reducing the Senegalese democratic exception to the level of semi-democratic countries or countries in democratic transition," he declared.
For someone who was one of the official voices of the previous supreme magistrate, this reform is an anachronism that diverts the executive branch from true national priorities. "The CENI is anachronistic. Reforms: a waste of time. The economy: the only urgent matter," he insists, citing in particular the example of Côte d'Ivoire where the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) is fueling regional debate.
