Sermon de l'imam Kuyateh contre le Magal : Les instructions de Serigne Mountakha Mbacké à son représentant en Gambie
In Gambia, young imam Abdul Kareem Kuyateh recently made controversial remarks about the Magal of Touba. The religious leader declared during a sermon that the Mouride pilgrimage to the Senegalese holy city is "haram" and that all the faithful who attend will end up in hell after their death. He also stated that "nightclub regulars are better than those who go to Touba for the Magal."
Offended, the Mouride community of Gambia filed a complaint against him. Summoned and questioned by the police last Monday, Abdul Kareem Kuyateh was not taken into custody.
He was able to return home, much to the satisfaction of his supporters, who came out in force to support him. In a WhatsApp audio message, the representative of the Mouride Caliph in Gambia, Pap Demba Jobe, indicated that he had received instructions from Serigne Mountakha Mbacké. The latter reportedly told him to "leave Imam Abdul Kareem's case in the hands of Serigne Touba."
“Serigne Touba taught us unity, perseverance and the power of spiritual resilience.”
The Caliph stressed the importance of preserving unity and respect within the Muslim community. He also reminded his followers that maintaining dignity and spiritual integrity is paramount, especially in the face of provocation.
“Serigne Touba taught us unity, perseverance and the power of spiritual resilience. We must remember these principles as we address challenges within our extended Muslim family,” Serigne Mountakha Mbacké said, according to “The Standard.”
It must be said that Imam Kuyateh has already expressed his regret and promised not to make such comments again. However, according to Pap Demba Jobe, the Mourides are waiting for a public apology.
