Entre injures, pilon et machette : deux belles-sœurs jugées pour violences après une altercation
In Thiès, a family dispute led two sisters-in-law to appear before the court for mutual violence and assault. S. Thiaw and A. Mbaye, married to two brothers from the same family, saw their disagreement escalate into legal proceedings.
The incident began with an argument between their children over an electrical cable. The altercation quickly escalated, leading to a heated confrontation between the two women. Insults and threats were exchanged before the situation nearly turned violent. The intervention of family members prevented a worse outcome.
Despite the separation, each of the women filed a complaint against the other for violence and assault. Prosecuted in court, they were released on bail pending their court appearance.
In court on Monday, April 27, 2026, the two defendants admitted to insulting each other and grabbing objects with the intention of fighting. However, each blamed the other for the incident.
S. Thiaw maintains that she was the first to be insulted by A. Mbaye, claiming that the latter grabbed a pestle to attack her. She says she reacted by also grabbing a pestle to defend herself, before her sister-in-law brandished a machete. She specifies, however, that no fight broke out thanks to the swift intervention of others.
For his part, A. Mbaye accuses S. Thiaw of being the cause of the conflict, accusing him of regularly insulting her in order to push her to leave the marital home.
The deputy public prosecutor considered that the facts were consistent and asked the judge to sentence each of the defendants to a fine.
The verdict in this case is expected on May 4, 2026.
