Faux monnayage à Thiaroye Azur : Les douanes frappent un grand coup avec une saisie de plus de 6 milliards F CFA
Senegalese customs services made an exceptional seizure of counterfeit banknotes worth more than 6 billion 24 million CFA francs on April 15, 2026 in Thiaroye Azur, in the suburbs of Dakar.
"This involves 15,000 €500 notes and 20,000 $100 notes, totaling 35,000 notes. The operation, which lasted nearly two weeks, led to the arrest of the counterfeiter at a guesthouse in Thiaroye Azur where the seized banknotes were to be laundered. Initial findings of the investigation have established that the suspect, a Senegalese national who presents himself as a traditional healer, is a member of a network operating between a neighboring country and Senegal," the customs statement indicates.
The operation was carried out by the Pikine mobile customs brigade, under the Dakar-Extérieur subdivision (directorate).
Through this large-scale action, the Customs Administration reaffirms its firm commitment to combating counterfeiting, a scourge that threatens the stability of the economic and financial system.
