Guy Marius Sagna alerte sur l’arrêt du projet Histoire générale du Sénégal
At the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, April 29, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye instructed the Ministry of Culture and the State Secretariat for Historical Heritage to expedite the finalization and publication of works dedicated to the general history of Senegal. However, this presidential directive stands in stark contrast to the reality described by Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna.
In a written question addressed to the government on March 30, the elected official denounced the alarming situation of the project, which has been without resources for two years. According to him, the premises have been without electricity, water, and internet connection for over two months, while the staff has been working for almost a year without receiving a salary.
“Despite these particularly difficult conditions, the team continued to dedicate itself fully to ensuring that this nationally significant project was not abandoned,” emphasizes Guy Marius Sagna. But today, due to a lack of funding, activities have ceased and the offices are emptying out.
The MP thus challenges the executive branch on a contradiction. "How can we demand the rapid publication of the works when the project is paralyzed by a lack of resources?" For him, it is urgent that the State take responsibility in order to save a project that embodies the collective memory and cultural sovereignty of Senegal.
