The General Waly Faye barracks in Mbao hosted the 2026 inter-legion triathlon championship last Friday, organized under the auspices of the High Commander of the National Gendarmerie and Director of Military Justice. The competition was presided over by Brigadier General Jean Bertrand Bocandé, commander of the Mobile Gendarmerie, in the presence of several military authorities, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.

A competition open to all categories

The event brought together gendarmes from the country's various legions, divided into several categories to allow all personnel to participate in the competition. Young male personnel, female personnel, and veterans from categories 1 and 2 thus had the opportunity to test themselves in a demanding discipline combining swimming, cycling, and running.

The careful organization of the event and the enthusiasm of the participants contributed to the smooth running of this sporting day.

A championship dedicated to institutional excellence

In his speech, General Bocandé emphasized the broader context of this competition, going beyond mere sporting rankings. "Beyond the rankings, this championship fulfills a greater ambition: to build a strong and high-performing National Gendarmerie team through the identification, selection, and preparation of the best athletes in this field," he stated.

The clearly stated objective is to build a pool of talent capable of representing the institution with dignity in military and national competitions.

The commander of the Mobile Gendarmerie also praised the human and collective benefits of this event. He emphasized that the National Gendarmerie had gained cohesion, experience, and esprit de corps, while the competitors had demonstrated values of discipline, solidarity, and pushing their limits, gaining confidence and endurance throughout the challenges.

At the close of the ceremony, General Bocandé offered his warmest congratulations to the winning teams and all participants for their commitment and fair play. Fully satisfied with the competition's progress, he urged all members of the National Gendarmerie to engage more in sports on a daily basis, presenting it as an essential element of discipline, cohesion, and performance within the institution.
