Mbour : privée d’électricité et sans portes, une locataire traîne sa bailleuse en justice
After three years of strained cohabitation, the conflict between landlord S. Guindo and her tenant Mat Fall has ended up in court, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing. The tenant accuses her landlord of using brutal methods to force her out. Quoted by the daily newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM), she claims she was without electricity for fifteen days after the meter was removed under the pretext of "technical checks." She also maintains that in her absence, while she was attending a funeral, the landlord allegedly sent individuals to break down and remove the doors of her apartment, leaving her children in complete safety.
In court, S. Guindo firmly denied these accusations, painting a damning portrait of her tenant. She cited five months of rent arrears, a chronic disregard for building safety regulations, and neighborhood disturbances. The landlord specifically accused the complainant's minor son of theft and drug use, while also denouncing unauthorized subletting.
The plaintiff, denouncing the "unworthy" methods used, is claiming 800,000 FCFA in damages. The public prosecutor, for his part, has requested that the law be applied. The Mbour court has adjourned the case for deliberation until April 16, according to the same source.
