Mbour : un taximan brade un téléphone de 120 000 FCFA à 7 000 FCFA pour acheter du...
Taxi driver S. Guèye, married and father of two, appeared before the Mbour court for the theft of a mobile phone committed in a bar in Saly Portudal.
The events date back to early March, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing. Taking advantage of a fight between customers, the defendant pretended to intervene before slipping under a table to steal a waiter's phone, belonging to A. Baldé. Thinking he hadn't been spotted, he returned to the scene that same evening, but was formally identified thanks to CCTV footage and then handed over to the police.
In court, after initially denying the charges, S. Guèye eventually admitted to the facts. As reported by the daily newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM), he explained that he had resold the aircraft, valued at 120,000 FCFA, for the paltry sum of 7,000 FCFA in order to buy fuel. The victim also accuses him of having taken 8,000 FCFA in cash, a point the defendant continues to deny.
In light of these factors, the prosecutor in Mbour requested a six-month prison sentence. The verdict is scheduled for March 26, according to Gfm.
