An operation by the Research Brigade (BR) of the Tambacounda central police station led to the dismantling of a clandestine prostitution network, resulting in the arrest of Fatoumata Camara. Aged 29, single, and a mother of three, the defendant is a repeat offender. She was caught consuming alcohol in a local bar without any administrative documents. Taken to the police station, she was subsequently detained and placed under a committal order.
Speaking about the events before the court, Fatoumata stated that she had gone to the establishment to attend a 'xawaré' (a traditional Senegalese gathering with music and dance). It was in this context that she sat down to drink alcohol. She also admitted to having been arrested once before for the same offense.
Considering the facts established, the deputy prosecutor, who reprimanded the defendant, requested that the law be applied against her. However, in his ruling, the judge ultimately discharged her from the proceedings.
Failing to obtain a health certificate to legally practice the 'oldest profession,' she must now abandon it for the sake of her three 'little pieces of God' (a local expression for children).
