102 kg de cocaïne dans ses bagages: l'ex-footballeur Jean-Manuel Nedra condamné à 5 ans de prison
The Bobigny criminal court on Friday sentenced former Martinique footballer Jean-Manuel Nedra to five years in prison, notably for transporting more than 100 kg of cocaine in his luggage on December 31, 2022.
The president declared Jean-Manuel Nedra guilty of possession and transport of narcotics as well as complicity in criminal association and also sentenced him to a fine of 60,000 euros.
The court issued a deferred detention order against him so that he could serve his sentence in Martinique.
"You were more than a transporter. You had a more important role than just the first person entrusted with a suitcase," said the president, referring to the athlete's arrest on December 31, 2022 at Roissy.
A few hours before the start of 2023, Jean-Manuel Nedra and his ex-partner, Lauryn N., had disembarked from a flight from Fort-de-France and were checked by customs officers at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle, who were surprised by the weight of their luggage.
Inside, officers discovered more than 102 kg of cocaine, distributed in four suitcases.
Presented to the investigating judge, Jean-Manuel Nedra initially denied knowing about the presence of narcotics in his luggage, explaining only that he had agreed to help an acquaintance move some belongings to France.
Before the Bobigny court, he admitted that he knew about the cocaine. But "at no point did I know the quantity I was transporting," the defendant stated.
He explained to the judge that he had no financial problems, but "at the time, I wasn't in a good place psychologically," a few months after the loss of a stillborn baby. "I didn't think. It was a huge mistake, the biggest mistake of my life, I truly regret it."
Jean-Manuel Nedra's ex-partner was sentenced to three years in prison, 20 months of which were suspended, and fined 15,000 euros.
Eight other people were tried in this case. Sentences ranged from six months suspended to eight years in prison for the man considered by the court to be the mastermind of the network.
