Algérie : Petkovic réclame plus de 3 milliards de FCFA à la FAF
The divorce between Vladimir Petkovic and the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is proving more complicated than expected. While his departure now seems inevitable after the Fennecs' elimination in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, the Swiss coach is reportedly demanding compensation of around 5 million euros, or more than 3 billion CFA francs, to agree to terminate his contract.
According to several Algerian media outlets, Petkovic is using his contract, extended until 2028 just days before the start of the World Cup, to demand payment of all remaining wages. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) disputes this position.
The Algerian football governing body, for its part, believes that a contractual clause allows for an amicable separation in exchange for the payment of only two months' salary, or approximately €320,000. This interpretation is rejected by the 62-year-old coach, who is reportedly considering taking the matter to FIFA if no agreement is reached.
This situation puts the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) in a delicate position. Vladimir Petkovic's objective was precisely to reach the Round of 32 of the World Cup, a milestone indeed achieved by the Fennecs. However, the decision to extend his contract even before the start of the competition could now considerably complicate negotiations surrounding his departure.
