[Au rythme de la CAN] Adversaire des Lions : La RD Congo, une équipe qui monte en puissance
This Saturday, at the Grand Stade de Tanger, the DRC faces Senegal for the second day of Group D of the AFCON-2025. After their double confrontation during the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup which ended in a draw in Dakar (1-1) and a victory for Senegal in Kinshasa (3-2), the two teams meet again.
Despite this defeat in front of their home crowd, the DRC team, led by experienced players like Chancel Mbemba, Arthur Masuaku, Samuel Moutoussamy and Elia Meschack, proved that it was capable of competing with the best nations on the continent.
The Leopards distinguished themselves during the African World Cup playoffs, eliminating Cameroon (1-0), before defeating Nigeria in the final on penalties (1-1, 4-3 on penalties), thus securing their place in the intercontinental playoff.
It is therefore with great confidence that Sébastien Desabre's team takes on the Lions. Nevertheless, the victory obtained on the first day against a weakened Benin side missing several key players revealed some weaknesses.
While the midfield, particularly with Noah Sadiki and Samuel Moutoussamy, showed promise, the attack, missing Yoane Wissa and Cédric Bakambu, proved ineffective. Defensively as well, despite the experience of captain Chancel Mbemba, the Leopards sometimes struggled against Benin's attacks.
In a competition that promises to be long and grueling, this clash constitutes a real full-scale test for two teams who came to Morocco with great ambitions.
