Ballon d’Or 2025 : Dembélé, Yamal, Raphinha, Hakimi… qui pour le trophée ?
This September 22nd, we will know the winner of the 2025 Ballon d'Or. For more than three months, four names have been persistently recurring as the main contenders for the title: Paris Saint-Germain striker Ousmane Dembélé, FC Barcelona's Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal, Barça's Brazilian left-footer Raphinha, and Paris Saint-Germain's Moroccan right-back Ashraf Hakimi. These three forwards, who have had an exceptional season, are among the favorites to succeed Spaniard Rodri.
Ousmane Dembélé, the main architect of PSG's historic season (French champions, winners of the Coupe de France and the Champions League), seemed to be touched by grace. Decisive in all the major matches, he shone with his efficiency and consistency. With 33 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, the French international had the best season of his career. Thanks to these performances, he is the logical favorite to win the prestigious trophy.
Lamine Yamal, Spanish champion and winner of the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, has lit up Barcelona's year. Despite his young age, the Spanish genius of Moroccan descent has been instrumental in the Catalan club's success. With 18 goals and 21 assists, Barça's new star has proven himself phenomenal in Spain and Europe. Even without the Champions League or Nations League, his performances give him a certain legitimacy in the race for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.
Raphinha also made his mark on the season. Following in the footsteps of his prestigious compatriots Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Ronaldo, the Brazilian lived up to expectations, particularly during the El Clasicos against Real Madrid. With 34 goals and 25 assists for his club, he was logically voted La Liga's best player. At 28, at the height of his powers, the Ballon d'Or would be a well-deserved reward for his exceptional season.
Finally, even though full-backs have rarely been rewarded, Achraf Hakimi has proven he can break that glass ceiling. A key player for PSG, he played an active role in the domestic treble and the Champions League title. In the Champions League, he scored in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, before opening the scoring in the final against Inter Milan (5-0). Despite a defeat in the Club World Cup final against Chelsea, he then distinguished himself with Morocco, the first African country to qualify for the next World Cup.
With the outstanding performances of these four players, the 2025 Ballon d'Or should not generate any controversy, unlike the previous edition.
