Basket : le championnat à l'arrêt
The national basketball championship will be suspended for at least three weeks, following the fifth round of matches scheduled for this weekend. According to Le Quotidien, which broke the news, this forced break is due to the closure of the Marius Ndiaye Stadium, decided in preparation for the first window of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scheduled from February 26 to March 1.
Chosen over Dakar Arena to host this international event, the Marius Ndiaye Stadium will undergo a minor facelift to meet the required standards. The work, which will begin next week, will include replacing the flooring, as well as renovating the locker rooms, warm-up room, stands, and restrooms.
As a direct consequence of this construction project, adds the daily newspaper of the Avenir communication group, the clubs that usually train on site, such as AS Douanes, AS Ville de Dakar and US Ouakam, will have to fall back on other sites.
For their part, the Lions, bronze medalists at the last Afrobasket, are expected in Dakar from February 23 to prepare for their matches against Ivory Coast, DR Congo and Madagascar.
