Basket-Mondial 2027 : Le Sénégal hôte de la troisième fenêtre
Senegal has once again established itself as a powerhouse of African basketball. From July 2nd to 5th, the country will host the third window of the FIBA 2027 World Cup qualifiers, a crucial step in the race for qualification.
After hosting the second window, Senegal has been selected by FIBA to host this new phase. The decision was ratified by the Africa regional office at a meeting held in Abidjan, which also designated Angola and Cameroon as the other host countries.
Drawn into Group B, Senegal will face formidable opponents: Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Madagascar. At the end of this window, the top three teams will advance to the World Cup.
The qualifying format then includes an expanded second round, during which the qualified teams will play six additional matches to try and secure their place in the final tournament. In this arrangement, Cameroon will host Group A, while Angola will host the matches of Groups C and D.
Furthermore, FIBA indicated that the host countries for the fourth window, scheduled for August 27-30, 2026, will be announced at a later date. The application deadline has been extended to May 15, 2026, leaving room for further nominations.
