Basketball : Omar Brancou Badio s’engage avec le club grec du Panathinaïkos
Just weeks after winning the Spanish championship with Valencia Basket Club, El Hadji Omar Brancou Badio has taken on a new challenge by joining one of Europe's most prestigious clubs. The Senegalese point guard has officially signed with Panathinaikos BC in Greece, where he will play for the next three seasons.
At 27, the Lions' captain continues his rise on the European stage. After playing a major role in Valencia's Spanish league title win following an intense final against FC Barcelona, Brancou Badio leaves the Liga Endesa to experience the Greek league and the EuroLeague with Panathinaikos.
To secure the services of the Senegalese international, the Athens club triggered his release clause, estimated at €1.5 million. This investment demonstrates the confidence placed in the Senegalese playmaker, whose performances have consistently impressed over the past few seasons.
This transfer marks a new stage in the career of the native of Rufisque. Trained at Saltigués, Brancou Badio has gradually built his reputation in Europe by passing through FC Barcelona (2019-2021), the Frankfurt Skyliners (2021-2022), Bàsquet Manresa (2022-2024) then Valencia Basket (2024-2026), with whom he won the title of Spanish champion.
By joining Panathinaikos, the Senegalese point guard will be playing for his fifth professional club in Europe. He now aims to establish himself at the highest continental level and continue his development with one of the most decorated teams in European basketball.
