Bundesliga : Le speaker de Cologne perd son sang-froid et dérape lors du match contre Dortmund
The Cologne-Borussia Dortmund match (1-2), played on Saturday in the Bundesliga, was marked by a rather unusual scene. Frustrated by Jahmai Simpson-Pusey's expulsion following a VAR review, the stadium announcer, Michael Trippel, unleashed his anger over the microphone during the match.
Visibly annoyed by the referee's decision, the stadium announcer denounced the sanction in very strong words. "Disgusting, outrageous!" he shouted to the fans, thus violating the rules that require announcers to make strictly neutral announcements during official matches.
The outburst didn't end there. After the final whistle, the 71-year-old also mentioned an alleged handball by a Dortmund player in added time, believing that the incident had not been reviewed by video assistance.
These comments were not well received within the club. Cologne's sporting director, Thomas Kessler, reiterated that an announcer should under no circumstances express emotions or take sides during a Bundesliga match.
Faced with the growing controversy, Michael Trippel finally apologized. "I regret my remarks. They were motivated by emotion and frustration with VAR," admitted the club's long-time announcer, promising to show restraint in the future.
