CAN-2025 au Maroc: huit interpellations dans une affaire de revente de billets
Moroccan police have arrested eight people in several cities across the country suspected of "illegal speculation" on tickets for matches of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which is currently being held in Morocco, local media reported on Tuesday.
According to a police source quoted by the news site Hespress, "IT monitoring services" detected posts on social networks offering to resell tickets "at prices far exceeding their value" in "violation of the law", which led to the opening of investigations.
The arrests took place in Agadir (south), Marrakech (central) and Rabat, the same source specified.
"The investigations are continuing to apprehend" other people "possibly involved", according to the news site Le360, which indicates that the people arrested have been placed in police custody as part of the judicial investigation.
When contacted by AFP, Moroccan police did not immediately respond.
Although the opening match of the AFCON between Morocco and Comoros (2-0) was announced as sold out, 60,180 spectators attended, leaving 9,320 empty seats at the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat, which has raised many questions on social media.
Morocco is hosting the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations from December 21 to January 18. In 2030, the kingdom will be the second African country to host a World Cup, 20 years after South Africa, jointly with Spain and Portugal.
