Can 2025 : une pétition réclame la dissolution de la Caf après le retrait du titre au Sénégal
The controversy surrounding the stripping of Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) title continues to generate strong reactions. An international petition, launched by Senegalese citizens, is now calling for the dissolution of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and a thorough reform of its governing bodies.
Launched on March 18th on the Change.org platform, this petition denounces a decision deemed "unprecedented" and "contrary to sporting ethics," following the awarding of the trophy to Morocco by default. Within hours, it garnered tens of thousands of signatures, reflecting the extent of the outrage.
The initiators believe that this decision "calls into question the truth on the ground" and constitutes "a dangerous precedent", calling for an overhaul of the governance of African football, in the name of transparency and credibility of the sport on the continent.
On March 17, the CAF annulled Senegal's victory in the 2025 AFCON final, citing a momentary abandonment of the field by Senegalese players during a penalty dispute, ultimately awarding a 3-0 victory to Morocco.
A decision that has caused shockwaves in Senegal, where authorities, federation and supporters denounce an "unfair" measure and are considering an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Beyond the Senegalese case, the authors of the petition claim to want to open a continental debate on the governance of African football, believing that "the future of African sport" is at stake.
