CAN 2025 : Une première journée riche en buts et conforme à la hiérarchie
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has kicked off perfectly. On this first day of competition, the continent's major nations have generally lived up to expectations.
As the host nation, Morocco made a strong start to the competition. Focused and disciplined, the Atlas Lions eventually found a way past a tenacious Comoros side led by Rafiki Saïd. Elsewhere, the favorites also delivered. Senegal cruised to a 3-0 victory over Botswana, confirming their status as title contenders, while Algeria left Sudan no chance, also 3-0. Tunisia enjoyed similar success, securing a comfortable 3-1 win against Uganda.
Egypt, for their part, had to work harder. Led by a decisive Mohamed Salah, the Pharaohs snatched a valuable victory against Zimbabwe (2-1). Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo also made successful starts, securing a first win that boosts their confidence.
The only blemish on the record for the favorites is Mali, held to a draw by a valiant Zambia (1-1), already conceding a first setback in a group stage that promises to be contested.
With 29 goals scored, Jackson, Mahrez and Achouri lead the way.
Statistically, this first matchday was notable for its offensive efficiency. A total of 29 goals were scored, with not a single goalless draw. This total surpasses that of the two previous editions at the same venue. Three players particularly distinguished themselves: Riyad Mahrez for Algeria, Jackson for Senegal, and Achouri for Tunisia, all of whom scored twice.
A promising start that confirms the ambitions of the African powerhouses and announces a very tough AFCON 2025.
