CAN Maroc-2025 – Demi-finale Sénégal-Égypte : Hossam Hassan balaie la notion de « bête noire »
The highly anticipated clash between Senegal and Egypt takes place this Wednesday in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. An explosive duel between two giants of African football, marked by a rivalry that has become intense in recent years.
The Lions face the Pharaohs in a match brimming with revenge and national pride. Since several decisive encounters, particularly in the final stages of the tournament, Senegal and Egypt have been locked in a sporting battle that now extends far beyond the pitch. On social media and in discussions among passionate fans, this rivalry has fueled debate for over four years.
So far, both teams have done what was necessary in this Moroccan AFCON, without necessarily dazzling with flashy football. Solid and pragmatic, they have managed to overcome obstacles to reach the semi-finals. This similar journey makes the outcome of this semi-final completely unpredictable.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Egyptian coach Hossam Hassan sought to downplay the situation, rejecting any notion of an inferiority complex towards Senegal. "Senegal is not a bogey team for the Egyptian national team. We are seven-time African champions, and in football, there is no such thing as a bogey team," he stated confidently.
The former international also emphasized his players' experience in this type of match.
“Facing Egypt is never easy. Our opponents respect us, sometimes even with a certain fear. The provocative videos circulated against us serve as additional motivation. We are a great football nation, used to playing in the semi-finals and big matches,” he added.
Facing a Senegalese team determined to reach another final, Egypt will rely on its experience and mental strength to overcome this obstacle. A clash of titans is on the cards, with a place in the grand final and, ultimately, the continental title at stake.
