CAN Maroc 2025 : le Maroc passe avec panache en 8ème de finale, le Mali se qualifie dans la douleur
Group A has concluded. Morocco and Mali have qualified for the Round of 16. Playing in front of their home crowd, the host nation finished the group stage with authority. The Atlas Lions dominated Zambia (3-1) after a convincing performance.
Frustrated by their draw against Mali (1-1) in the previous match, the Moroccans approached this game with great determination. Very enterprising from the outset, they quickly took the lead. In the 9th minute, Ayoub El Kaabi opened the scoring, heading home a precise cross from Azzedine Ounahi.
Morocco's dominance continued and, before the half-hour mark, the Atlas Lions broke through. Brahim Díaz, the team's attacking leader, finished off a cross from Abdessamad Ezzalzouli with his left foot to beat the Zambian goalkeeper (27th minute).
Having completely controlled the match and displayed a much more attractive face than in their previous outings, Morocco went into halftime with a comfortable lead.
After returning from the locker room, Walid Regragui's men maintained the pressure. In the 50th minute, Ayoub El Kaabi once again shone, scoring a superb acrobatic bicycle kick, perfectly set up by Ounahi. This was his third goal in this AFCON, his second of the most spectacular.
Thanks to this resounding victory, Morocco finished top of the group.
In the other match, Mali and Comoros played to a 0-0 draw. This result was enough for the Eagles, who secured second place and qualified for the second round, though not without difficulty.
