CAN Maroc-2025 : Les Éléphants rendent un vibrant hommage à Jean-Louis Gasset
Ivory Coast has not forgotten Jean-Louis Gasset. Having passed away last Friday at the age of 72, the former coach of the Elephants was honored this Sunday evening, before the kick-off of the Group F clash against Cameroon.
Ivorian and Cameroonian players observed a moment of silence in memory of the French coach, who was applauded by the crowd in the stadium. It was a moving tribute, a symbol of Ivorian football's gratitude to a coach who has left his mark on the national team's recent history.
Jean-Louis Gasset had managed the Elephants from May 2022 to January 2024. At the helm of Ivory Coast during the last Africa Cup of Nations played at home, he was forced to leave his post after the heavy defeat against Equatorial Guinea (4-0), in the third match of the group stage.
Although replaced by his former assistant, Emerse Faé, Gasset had contributed to the foundations of the eventual success. Under Faé's leadership, the Elephants had achieved an exceptional run to secure a third continental title, further cementing their place in African football legend.
This tribute is a reminder that, despite the hardships and circumstances of his departure, Jean-Louis Gasset remains a respected and recognized figure in the Ivorian nation.
