CAN U17 Maroc 2026 : le Sénégal débarque avec de grandes ambitions
Led by a promising generation and coached by former Senegalese international Lamine Sané, Senegal's U17 national team approaches the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with high ambitions. The Young Lions dream of following in the footsteps of the 2023 champions and bringing the continental trophy back to Dakar once again.
Senegal aims to return to the pinnacle of African under-17 football. Just hours before the kick-off of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, the Young Lions have clearly stated their ambitions: to shine in the Kingdom of Morocco and bring another continental trophy back to Dakar.
Now led by former Senegalese international defender Lamine Sané, the U17 national team intends to follow in the footsteps of the golden generation of Amara Diouf, Serigne Fallou Diouf and Yaya Diémé, crowned African champions in 2023 after an impressive run.
To meet this challenge, the Senegalese coach will rely on a new wave of promising young talents. Among them are Cheikh Oumar Sy of Castor FC, Maurice Biaye of AF Darou Salam, El Hadji Ibrahima Sow of Dakar Sacré-Cœur, Sébastien Nogueira of Génération Foot, and Ibrahima Dione of ASC HLM. A talented and ambitious generation that dreams of writing its own glorious chapter in the history of Senegalese football.
The mission looks difficult for the Young Lions. Senegal will face stiff competition, notably from Morocco, the host country and defending champion, but also from Mali, Cameroon, and Ghana, all regulars in major youth competitions.
Despite this strong opposition, the Young Lions, who will begin the tournament on Thursday against South Africa, want to capitalize on the exceptional momentum of Senegalese football in recent years. Following their successes on the continental stage in several age groups, Senegal hopes to continue its rise and solidify its status as a new benchmark for African youth football.
