Classement FIFA : Le Sénégal recule au niveau mondial, mais reste solidement 2e en Afrique
Despite positive results during the last international break, Senegal has slipped in the FIFA world rankings. The Lions, however, retain their status as the second-ranked African nation, behind Morocco, who remain the continent's leader.
The latest FIFA rankings, now continuously updated, have provided a wealth of insights following the March international break. While some African teams have improved, others, like Senegal, have experienced mixed results.
Despite two convincing victories against Peru (2-0) and Gambia (3-1), Senegal has slipped in the world rankings. The Lions have dropped two places and now find themselves 14th internationally.
This decline is explained in particular by the defeat by default in the final of the 2025 AFCON, an episode that is still at the heart of a dispute.
However, this poor performance does not affect their continental status: Senegal firmly retains its 2nd place in Africa, with a comfortable lead over Nigeria.
For its part, Morocco remains the top-ranked African nation and maintains its 8th place in the world rankings. The Atlas Lions had a mixed record during this international break, drawing against Ecuador (1-1) before securing a victory against Paraguay (2-1). This performance was enough to keep them at the top of African football, while also moving closer to the world's top seven.
