Interviewed by Marca, the Brentford striker, who has scored 22 Premier League goals this season, shared his emotions after joining the squad managed by Carlo Ancelotti.

“I still can’t believe it. Being called up for a World Cup represents the greatest achievement of my life, both personally and professionally,” he said.

But behind this success lies a story marked by numerous sacrifices. Igor Thiago reveals that he wasn't passionate about football during his childhood and that he absolutely didn't see himself becoming a professional player.

“Becoming a professional was already a huge victory. I didn’t really like football. It was seeing my brother come home happy after his matches that made me start to take an interest in it,” he said.

The disappearance of his father when he was only 13 years old turned his life upside down. Forced to help his family, the young Brazilian took on a variety of odd jobs to provide for their needs.

“I used to leave home at five in the morning. I worked at the market, I distributed leaflets, I washed cars, I weeded and I also did masonry work. All these experiences shaped my character and made me the man I am today,” he explained.

His mother, Dona Diva, also testified to ESPN about her son's unwavering determination.

"He never refused a single job. Sometimes it hurt me to see him come home with his hands covered in calluses and blisters. Some of his friends wanted to lead him into delinquency and drugs, but he always resisted and chose the right path," she confided.

Today, Igor Thiago is reaping the rewards of his efforts. His journey, marked by hardship and hard work, illustrates a formidable lesson in courage and perseverance, which has led him to the most prestigious international competition.
